wrestling with so much heartbreak, all of the newtown schools except for sandy hook elementary will reopen. grief and the fears of returning students an additional concern. police officers will be at every single school and today the town will lay to rest, the grandmother of charlotte bacon says her 6-year-old granddaughter was a bundle of energy who loved dresses and a second, jessica rekos, loved horses, she wrote her own horse stories, excited about a pair of cowgirl boots she was expecting to get for christmas. now to get the latest on the school's reopening this morning, sara endo is here in the heart of newtown with more. >> reporter: they're starting to see a lot of school buses rolling by and in about an hour or two classes will be in session. they all may be anxious about school returning back to normalcy but this could be the first step to healing. step towards normalcy, for newton kids that means go back to school. >> we're a little bit worried because we know what we thought was a secure school had this happen to them. >> reporter: facing fear may be the first step to overcome

from sandy hook elementary. last night, the president assured them he will take action, saying they are not alone. and, as we said, this week here at abc news, we will join the search for answers about gun violence in america. but we do begin this evening in a community that is shattered but holding on, and abc's dan harris, who has been there from the start, watched as the funerals began today. dan? >> reporter: diane, good evening. this growing carpet of cards and flowers and teddy bears behind me is a symbol of a community that is hoping, in the words of one of the signs here, that love will get them through this. first, though, they need to get through the funerals, which began today. today, in newtown, a funeral for 6-year-old noah pozner, who was eulogized as a boy who liked animals, video games and mexican food. he used to tell people he worked in a taco factory. at his funeral, an onlooker collapsed as the procession passed. inside, his mother shared stories that had everyone in tears. >> when she told him, i love you, his answer was, not as much as i love you. >> repor

. welcome back to cnn's continuing coverage of the tragedy at sandy hook, elementary. we are here in newtown, connecticut. heading towards the bottom of the hour. i'm kate bolduan and john berman will be back to join me in a couple of minutes. let's catch you up on what we know this sunday. president obama will head to newtown, connecticut, where he will meet with the families of the victims. the president will also speak at a vigil, an interfaith vigil tonight. many people looking forward to hearing his words. we also know 12 of the victims were boys and 8 were girls. the medical examiner released the names of all of the victims yesterday. all of the children were either 6 or 7 years old. while 6 of them have the victi adults, all were women working at the school. united way set up a fund to collect donations for victims' families and the community as a whole. it's called the sandy hook school support fund. all donations will go directly to those affected. many ways to impact your world today. >>> we still don't know much, though, about the shooter, adam lanza. so many questions and very f

are doing well this holiday season. it is looking like a total bust. courtesy of sandy, incredibly warm weather and, of course, the fear engendered by the serious issue that is the fiscal cliff. i see that weakness and i'm not crazy about these stocks, in general. but i think that the conclusion of the housing crisis is upon us. which means there will be more money going to building and fixing up homes in 2013 than there was in 2012. so that means there will be up comparisons, and that's good. there will be sure to buy housing-related play into the fiscal cliff jump if we get one next week. oh, and i'm including banks. they've really taken off here, too. in large part that is because the housing crisis is over. how about the rest of the world's growth? not that long ago we heard very smart short sellers write off both china and europe it was on a year ago that italy and greece would be following in disaster. of course, they subsequently turned out to be the single best places to invest for fixed income in the world. not only did the sky not fall, but you had to do some serious buying to

the nature of the shooting because officials say that adam lanza carried at least three guns into sandy hook elementary on friday but they say he used old one of them to kill the children, an assault-style rifle that his mother bought. the medical ex-naerm newtown says the children were each shot several times, all with an assault-style rifle like this one, a bush master bushmaster similar to the rifle used ten years ago by the washington, d.c. snipers who killed ten people and wounded three others. investigators say the gun belonged to nancy lanza of newtown, purchased legally in the last few years and used, they say, by her son, adam, who took it to the school after first fatally shooting his mother at the home where they both lived. authorities have not said how she stored the weapons, whether she kept them locked. nancy lanza's sister-in-law, adam lanza's aunt, stays is not unusual for a divorced woman, like nancy, who lived alone, to have them in the house. >> self-defense. she was a female. live aid loan, live nald beautiful neighborhood. >> reporter: but those guns she bought for pro

with six pink candles. a first grader at sandy hook elementary. she loved to draw, wanted to be an artist when she grew up. she often would turn parts of her house into a mini-art studio, by taping rows of her drawings to the wall. her parents say allison sometimes surprised her parents with random acts of kindness to strangers, once offering her own snacks to fellow passengers on the plane. alison loved to laugh, was developing her own sense of humor. she would sometimes make her parents cry with laughter. they write, allison made the world a better place for six far too short years and we now have to figure out how to move on without her. she was a sweet, creative, funny, intelligent little girl who had an amazing life ahead of her. our world is a lot darker now that she's gone. dawn hochsprung was known as a tough educator who always found time to smile. she was 47 years old and principal of sandy hook elementary school. her pride in her school was obvious to anyone who knew her. friends and colleagues alike say she had a positive energy and a strong work ethic. she constantly tweeted
